SHEEP WOOL THROW BLANKETS HAND-WOVEN ON LOOM BY WOMEN OF A LOCAL COMMUNITY IN NORTHERN ARGENTINA.
Our products are completely handmade by a group of women who live in a small town in the Province of Santiago del Estero called “San José del Boquerón”.
They have learned from their mothers and grandmothers the art of loom-weaving.
The old Parish of the town, founded by the Jesuits in 1751, is the meeting point for this group of Artisan Women who keep their identity intact and make their work a sustainable livelihood for themselves and their families as well as a valuable way of empowerment.
These Women spin and dye sheep wool completely by hand. They know that the most beautiful pigments, are those obtained from roots, barks and resins of plants which grow in the Bushes.
Each piece is named after the artisan.
The art objects they produce are their source of work and promote the cultural meanings of their communities.
