PRODUCTS MADE BY WOMEN OF INDIGENOUS AND LOCAL COMMUNITIES IN NORTHERN ARGENTINA

CHAGUAR PRODUCTS ARE MADE BY WICHIS WOMEN. The work of the fiber of the chaguar is an exclusive task of Wichí women, the men help with the load. The chaguar plant is a bromeliad (a type of tropical plant) that grows in the bushes of The Gran Chaco Area. Fibers are extracted from its leaves.

CARANDILLO PRODUCTS ARE MADE BY PILAGÁ WOMEN. They go to the bushes where they collect the leaves of Carandillo plants. The process of shredding transforms the leaves into thin fibers which will be used to weave the baskets with needles.

The raw material of our products is collected, broken, crushed, dried, spun, dyed, and then weaved. So, each product is unique and unrepeatable.

All these women have learned from their mothers and grandmothers the art of create wonderful baskets from vegetable fibers.
They know that the most beautiful pigments, are those obtained from roots, barks and resins of plants which grow in the Bushes.

Artisans Women are free and intuitive. They work together in community, applying ancient techniques and producing unique handcrafted pieces.
